Goddamn this fucking iPhone.
All I wanted to do this evening was come home, relax, download Spore onto my iPhone and play around with what is being billed as one of the most advanced sim games ever, and I’m wowed out and excited that they’ve released it for the iPhone within a couple of days of releasing it for other platforms. Spore is definitely the most anticipated game of this year.
This is my plan: I download the application to the computer, because the size of the app is 80 meg and it was just easier that way, then the sync the phone and start playing.
Right at the end of the syncing process, iTunes freezes, the phone reboots and will not progress past the logo screen. I shut the phone down hard, restart it and again it stalls at the logo screen. I try this several times and it still can’t fully bootup. I go online to find tech support and all of their solutions I’ve already tried.
I plug the damn thing back into the computer and it comes up with instructions telling me to launch iTunes, so I figure this is a good sign. Wrong. Once iTunes launches, it says the phucking phone is in “recovery” mode and needs to be restored before it can be used. WHAT THE FUCK??? This means I have to wipe it clean and I’m going to lose everything I have on there. Most of it is duped from the computer, but this means all my preferences, locations for icons, lists, etc is down the toilet.
I check when the last time I actually allowed the phone to do a backup (it tries to backup everytime you plug it in and the backups take about an hour, so I usually cancel) and the last date is three days ago. Okay, I guess that’s not too bad. Then, of course, the backup fucking fails and I’ve got to re-initialize it as if I’ve just taken the damn phone out of the fucking box.
When I am prompted to name my phone, I call it “THIS IPHONE SUX”, in caps.
Goddamn it, this means I’m going to lose my saved game on Monkey Ball, and I was one level away from making it all the way through—Goddamn it!
And now I’ve got to copy everything back over to it on the first sync, which with songs, apps, tv shows and photos it’s going to take all fucking night—Goddamn it!!
I know tomorrow Apple is having an iPod-based media event/product launch and they had better release the rumored iPhone 2.1 software that will fix these goddamn fucking problems. This is fucking ridiculous that an entire phone can get fried just by trying to fucking sync it.
