The DC Council has voted to essentially make the city a 24-hour party town during inauguration weekend, January 17–21. From the AP:
WASHINGTON (AP)—The D.C. Council has approved emergency legislation allowing the city’s bars, nightclubs and restaurants to stay open around the clock for four days around President-elect Barack Obama’s inauguration.
The bill allows any establishment with a liquor license to serve alcohol until 5 a.m. and serve food at any hour from Jan. 17 until the morning of Jan. 21.
The council approved the measure in a 9-4 vote Tuesday and was pushed by the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington. The organization says the inauguration is a rare event that is worthy of special rules.
I have been accepted to the Masters Program at Georgetown University. There I will study graphic artistry supplemented with a flurry of work experience and life credits that I will be the top in my class and an invaluable resource to those around me.
I have decided to reside in the dormitory to foster a sense of camaraderie and unity with my peers. I’ve seen my room and although I have no roommate there is a large communal area where I will gather with those who live down the hall to share dinners, television shows and Wii games (television-based activities only to be enjoyed once our studies and projects are completed).
While being twice as old as most of the other students, I still feel comfortable on campus. Although I don’t hang out too long at the student union with the other kids, I do show up every once in a while. When I do, I’m invited to sit down with classmates and we engage in stimulating conversation about design philosophies, critiquing each others work, analyzing published work and anything other topic that may come up. We’ll split a pitcher of beer and then make plans for later.
This scenario is, of course, never going to happen. I realize this as I awake, the iPod/Alarm playing Thomas Dolby singing about a submarine run aground on maneoeuvres. The dream fades quickly, as most of mine do, but I was able to remember enough of the pleasing scenario that was happening in another world and another time.
Bye bye empire, empire bye bye.

Inspired by Elyse’s latest post, I will offer my own wish list for the next twenty-five days. While mine may not be as witty, they are just as redonk. I think that should you give enough time, even if it has to be shipped and then gift-wrapped and then hand-delivered:
- any product containing the word LEGO
- a Smart fourtwo (silver convertible with black tridion shell, please)
- cash (any amount, even change)
- new running shoes (size 12)
- world peace, cures for diseases, acceptance & tolerance, etc.
- groceries for one year
- a box full of kittehs (or puppehs)
