this is what i remember from saturday

With the leftover ingredients from last weekend’s N.E.B. I have three quiches to make today. And some more potatoes. And some more bacon. I’m eating the last of the mini-bagels as I’m slightly dreading make them this huge brunch meal again, if only for the mess and dirty dishes it will produce. But I don’t want to waste the eggs and all the other ingredients that have taken over my refrigerator.

While I’m munching on my bagels and contemplating pouring a bloody mary (there’s that leftover too) I am face(booke)d with an offer from Patty to go out and have brunch. She’s practically saying that we’re going out and I have no say in the matter. Looking around at the quiche ingredients I’ve assembled on the counter I invite her over to 1526 to help me put a dent into the impending brunch extravaganza. I tell her we may need some champagne or vodka to make some brunch drinks and she says she’ll stop by the store and she’s on her way. Now I really have to get it in gear.

I recreate almost verbatim last week’s menu: veggie; sausage and green chile; three cheese. I don’t have any pics of them after cooking because we were so hungry but here they are still in liquid form before being put into the oven. So easy to make.

Let me say that Patty and I may or may not have ever met each other in person. We’re still trying to piece that together. We have a mutual friend, the self-described Funbags, and Patty and I have become Facebook Friends and since we’re both never more than 18-inches away from our phones there is a lot of Facebook status updating and commenting and all that it seems like we’re old friends now.

Patty, obviously distracted by shiny and/or pink things, arrives with a slew of liquid bevvies. The first that we tackled was Nuvo, which resembled a huge perfume bottle by J.Lo. Twas very pink, very girly and very sweet. It’s incredients are “ultra premium” vodka, sparkling wine, some peachy-nectar and extra carbonation. This bottle didn’t last very long.

Next was the 4-pack of Sofia Mini Blanc de Blanc from Francis Coppola. Again, cute, pink and sparkly, these reminded me of the ill-fated Tab Energy drinks from a few years ago. Small and compact, these didn’t last very long either.

Then we popped open the discoball-contained bottle of Absolut and tried to make an actual discoball out of it but apparently I don’t have enough pinpoint lighting. I’ll have to work on that. To complete our disco theme we launched Rhapsody (Patty has an account) and started playing DJ well into the evening.

All in all it was a fun, unexpected turn of events of the day’s planned laundry-a-thon. And I had someone to help enjoy at least some of all the food that was made.

(Sorry G—forgot to save before posting.)

If you’re on Facebook, you have to see this photo album. It’s posted by Jon A, whom I do not know, but I do have a friend (real and FB) who commented on one of his pics, and therefore I had a link to it. Jon’s profile is hidden, but apparently the photo albums are public, if you can navigate to them.

Jon’s album mainly consists of family photographs taken in the 70s. They’re of his youth in Florida, and he’s supplied witty on-point commentary to most of them. Themes are scary clowns, a devastating grandmother, being restrained and discovering Darth Vader is, in fact, his father.

My absolute favorite is #10 (there’s a total of 47). It’s the kind of picture that because you had to wait a week for the film to be developed, cracked you up when you flipped through them. Sadly, this never happens anymore;  with digital cameras everyone has to relive the moment of five seconds ago by demanding to see the picture immediately after it’s taken.

The link is here, after you sign into FB it should take you to the photo album. Let me know if it doesn’t work.

I’m starting to discover that I know four types of people: bloggers, Twitterers, Facebookers and… what is the other type… oh that’s right, real people. Sometimes these groups overlap.

I’ve noticed a drop in volume of email from friends (and even texts, for that matter), presumably because they can go to Facebook and check everyone’s mini-blog all in one sitting. If they need to inform me of something, they will write it on my wall or send a message through Facebook instead of opening their email app and sending it that way. I’m also aware that I will check blogger friends’ blogs less often, because I feel I’m getting updated through FB or Twitter. I fear all electronic will come through FB in the next five years. I’m secretly hoping it’s a phase. Playing Scrabble on it is fun, though.

It’s 8:44 and raining, we’re getting the outward flings from some hurricane that is hitting the Carolinas. I’ve already checked my FB updates and sent a tweet or two this morning. I haven’t sent any emails, although I’ve deleted some junk ones.

beach blog, day three

It’s easy like Sunday morning, here.

We have laughed and had a great time this entire weekend. We have also eaten so much wonderful food this weekend that I’ve tried to chronicle.

After our morning routine of morning coffees on the back porch, recounting the previous evening’s events and checking/updating emails and Facebook pages, brunch is calling.

Cuban Mix sandwiches are the call of the day and the only place for those is Cafe Sole. Another item tempting me on the menu is the chicken salad cordon bleu: best of both worlds, right? Chris and I decide to split sandwiches, so I get my chicken salad, he gets the Cuban and both end up delicious. For desert? Deviled eggs. Yum. We do a little walking shopping and then it’s time to go back to the house for a quick nap and then time for me, Chris and Michael to get on the road for our return trip; we have to work tomorrow while the rest of the team gets to stay and play for another day.

A month or so ago, right after I had been talked into joining Facebook, the entire studio where I work also started joining up and starting zinging friendships around, including me. There must have been a story about Facebook on NPR or something to get everybody so energized about it. Facebook was new to me and I didn’t really understand what it was all about except that it was fun to “rock the granny panties” or send someone a jpg of a piña colada.

Now that I’ve been on it for a while and have thoroughly gotten used to it (at least the old Facebook), I’ve realized what you can do with it, and more specifically, what is seen and what can/can’t be seen. And after hearing remarks at work such as “he said on his Facebook that he was going to the doctor” or “OMG did you see that picture of (insert employee name) on Facebook?!” I’ve decided to de-friend my coworkers, meaning they will no longer have access to the information on my page. It’s nothing personal, but it’s everything personal. If you want to come here to futurejunkie to see what I’m Twittering about or what I’m posting about that’s fine, it’s public domain, but at least make the conscious effort. Don’t scan your Facebook page and expect me to be there.
